Creating efficient and capable component fabrication methods

Unleash the potential of custom boride, oxide, and carbide ceramic materials with MillenniTEK’s versatile contract-machining services. Whether it’s green, bisque, CNC, or diamond grinding operations, we’re here to bring your vision to life using your material or ours. With the support of our integrated materials quality control laboratory, trust in MillenniTEK’s precision ceramic expertise to realize your high-quality mission critical products.

Expertly engineering powder forming and sintering processes

Our manufacturing process involves compacting and sintering extremely hard and abrasive powdered materials. Our press tooling is manufactured in-house using ceramic inserts, press fitted into die bodies. We use computer aided design to create custom forming tools for processing powders at high pressures utilizing rapid pressing cycle times and efficient ejection methods. We can design and manufacture tooling to meet your needs for both the ceramic and refractory metal powders. Our decades of experience designing tooling results in high production yields, consistent component weights absent of cracks and void defects.
We implement ceramic inserts in our tooling to provide longer service life and rapid changeover times using our many years of ceramic tooling design experience. A variety of punch tips manufactured from different materials can also be manufactured.
Complicated tooling shapes can be achieved by wire EDM processing, CNC machining, followed by the appropriate heat treatment or coating processes. We also have extensive precision diamond grind and polishing capabilities in-house.

Technical Ceramics Engineering at the Particle level

A well-rounded process engineering team is a key factor that ensures MillenniTEK stays ahead of the game. Our expertise is forming ceramic powders into various shapes by utilizing an array of methods including 3D printing, selective laser sintering (SLS), gel casting, hot pressing, cold isostatic pressing, hot isostatic pressing and standard uniaxial powder compaction. Any of these methods can be used as the basis to design specific components for high tech modern applications. We can fine-tune ceramic powders to specific particle size distribution to allow us to control the compaction pressure, shrinkage rate, at specific green density. The result of this control is reduced defects and tightly controlled densities of the green compact.
Correct material selection for specific applications is critical when designing ceramic components for custom purpose use. We have expertise in many material fields including ceramic and metal matrix composites and ceramic resin composites.

Expertise in Industrial Automation

At MillenniTEK we can design and build control systems for all types of automated applications. Our electrical workshop is equipped to build the most modern panels, utilizing SCADA, PLC control and robotic positioning. Often, systems that are available off the shelf are overkill for the application or simply too expensive to justify the capital expenditure. We design our systems to fit the application. Our fixtures include robotic handling, precision automation and automatic inputting of data into any standard format such as Microsoft Excel. We program in-house so that systems can be designed to your specific needs

Engineering for High Quality

Relying on our robust NQA-1 quality system and a reputation as a Tier 1 supplier for safety-related nuclear components, we provide ceramics operating U.S. reactors, with tens of millions of units delivered. Every component that we manufacture varies in the type of material, density, shape and surface finish requirements Material quality and compliance to customer specifications is paramount. Our ceramics are manufactured using high quality raw materials that are characterized incoming using or quality control laboratory. Our internal laboratory can perform are particle size analysis, XDR phase analysis, and flow characteristics critical for compaction. The same laboratory confirms that our fired products meet our customer’s specifications are characterized for interstitial gasses, fires density, shrinkage, cracks, and porosity. Often our products require 100% visual and dimensional inspection. We have designed, built, commissioned and qualified laser measuring fixtures both fully automated and manually operated. We utilize the latest inspection technology from manufacturers such as Mitutoyo, Keyence, Fluke and Fanuc.

Ceramic Processing Partnerships

We can extend our processing capabilities to partner with key customers via toll processing. We have experience manufacturing products using a wide variety of ceramic and refractory metal materials. We can press or cast components and provide them to the end user in the green or fired form. Our toll capabilities are as follows:
• Powder compaction into cylinders or annular shape
• Rapid Uniaxial pressing
• Cold Isostatic pressing (CIP)
• Hot isostatic pressing (HIP)
• Firing capability up to 2300 ºC (inert) continuous
• Firing capability up to 1600 ºC (inert or air)
• Diamond grinding of ceramic components dry or wet up to 100% dense boron carbide hardness
• Green machining of components
